Before Sovern, Brandon spent 25 years as a VP of Sales in the SaaS software industry — closing deals, navigating venture capital transactions, acquiring companies and being acquired. He knows how to negotiate, how to read a contract, and how to build something that actually works at scale.
Then he and his wife Marti — who holds a finance degree from TCU — started a roofing and general contracting company. They ran it for five years and saw the same thing every contractor sees: claims coming back underpaid. Adjusters skipping line items. O&P denied. Code upgrades ignored. Good contractors absorbing losses and moving on because they didn't have the time or knowledge to fight back.
They watched jobs that should have paid $18,000 close at $11,000. Real money, left on the table, on every single job. And they decided to do something about it.
Brandon and Marti transitioned to the supplement side of the business and built Sovern from the ground up — combining Brandon's Xactimate Level 2 certification with Marti's financial expertise and their shared firsthand experience as contractors. They built a service that speaks the carrier's language, knows the code requirements in Texas, and doesn't back down when the first offer is low.
